Emergency Housing Shelter Expansion and Improvements by Concord Rotary, Auction Bidders and more... In celebration of Concord Rotary's 100th anniversary (in 2005), the Rotary selected The Friends Program's
well known, respected and award winning homeless shelter for families as a recipient of a generous donation
to increase its capacity. Additionally, the Friends Program successfully competed for a grant from the
Community Development Block Grant through the City of Concord and the NH Housing Finance Authority. More fuel was added to the fire by attendees of last year's auction who enthusiastically participated in
our annual "fund a need" contributing over $12,000 to refurbish bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. It
took just 10 minutes to raise this money, after a compelling presentation of the "need" by Board Trustee,
Bob Larsen. New linens, window shades, furniture, kitchen appliances, towels and storage items will be added to the
house to replace well worn items and to give the shelter a more welcoming and uplifting appearance. A total of $300,000 has been raised to date to renovate and improve this important community resource. The project is in progress and will be complete late May 2006. The renovations will increase the
capacity of the shelter by 50% enabling our facility to house up to 36 people. The improvements at the Emergency Housing Program's shelter will include space to support the Program's
ongoing evolution from offering shelter to providing interventions that help families develop skills and the
confidence needed to secure and maintain permanent housing. Thanks to ALL who helped make this possible… Concord Rotary, the Concord's Community Development
Block Grant, the NH Housing Finance Authority and our 2005 live auction bidders! |
