Jessica's Story

The Emergency Housing Staff offers support by seeing the potential in families which helps them gain the courage to succeed. We currently have a family who came to the Emergency Housing Program feeling defeated. The mother (Jessica P.) of the family was depressed and suffered from anxiety. The Emergency Housing Program team was able to work with her and get her the services that she needed to help her succeed. Once we helped her realize her potential she had the courage to achieve her goals. Once Jessica became confident we saw many of her talents. She helped the Emergency Housing Program with our Garden, by pruning our plants and showing us how to take care of our flowers. You see before Jessica fell into hardship she used to have beautiful gardens which were her pride and joy. Jessica and her family took nature walks and picked wildflowers and replanted them in their garden.

I’d like to share the quote I received from Jessica about the Friends Emergency Housing Program:

The compassion and support of the staff at the Friends Emergency Housing program has given me a safe place to “Fall” while I regain my strength of spirit which continues to grow more each day. I am beginning to once again enjoy the activities I’d lost interest in while depressed, including gardening. But most of all; I am smiling again.

-Jessica P.

This is an example of why we do what we do at the Emergency Housing Program. We truly are a support for the families and as staff we learn something new from each family that comes to our door.
