Impact of Services

Program Evaluation information illustrates the impact of our services on our Care Receivers. This study looked at two main issues, being able to stay in one’s own home longer, and the impact on the care receiver’s sense of wellness and the volunteer’s experience with the program. Below is a summary of our findings:

Care Receivers report that because of The Friends Interfaith Caregiver Program they:

  • are able to stay in their homes (81%)
  • are better able to get to the doctors when they need to (89%)
  • feel that there is less of a strain on their families (87%)
  • are able to live with dignity (86%) (ICP Care Receiver Impact Survey, 2004)

Caregiver volunteers report they:

  • get satisfaction from their volunteer services (98%)
  • are respected and valued as a volunteer (98%)
  • are well utilized as a volunteer (88%)
  • feel well prepared to do their work (100%) (ICP Care Giver Satisfaction Survey, 2006)

If the Friends Interfaith Caregiver program delays nursing home placement by 1½ days; or, put another way, by just 3 weeks for 40 of the seniors served, it will save the public more than the program’s annual operating budget!

“The Interfaith Caregivers Program has made a difference in my life. When I gave up my car, I lost all my independence. Because of the volunteers who drive to me to medical appointments I have it back. It means a lot to me when they wait for me in the doctor’s office. I also don’t feel so alone.”
