RSVP Member receives 2010 Vaughan Award
The Friends Program is pleased to announce that RSVP member and volunteer, Ralph Appleby of Rochester, has been named as the2010 Joseph D. Vaughan Award recipient for Strafford County.
The Joseph D. Vaughan Awards are presented annually to an individual or couple from each New Hampshire county who are age 60 or older and have demonstrated outstanding leadership and volunteer service on behalf of older persons in the State. The was originally created in 1962 in memory of Joseph D. Vaughan, a NH legislator and an early advocate on behalf of the elderly. Vaughan was instrumental in creating a state agency dedicated to the well being of senior citizens.
Ralph has been with RSVP since 2003. As a volunteer for the RSVP Program, Appleby has spent his time providing transportation; delivering RSVP member created items to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for the Navy’s Junior Seabag – Family Financial Literacy program; coordinating the distribution of hygiene products to residents of the Veterans Home in Tilton; and most importantly visiting with his fellow veterans.
