This year it will look a bit different, but our annual "Gear for Grades" school supply drive is back! A bright future begins with a good education, and a good education begins with proper supplies. For children in need, something as simple as a new backpack can boost their confidence and self-esteem while on their way to success.
We are currently accepting filled backpacks, much-needed school supplies for children distance learning, gift cards, and financial donations to assist the families we serve in purchasing required materials.
Donating toward the Friends Youth Mentoring Gear for Grades drive is an easy way to get involved and support youth in the Concord area. We’ve created a flyer to provide detailed shopping lists by age group. Click here to view!
We’ve also created an online shopping lists for your convenience, based on local school shopping lists. Feel free to select items of your own choosing using the grade-specific lists provided.

Frequently Asked Questions
How has the Backpack Program changed due to COVID-19?
This year, we’ve built a suggested shopping list through Walmart to provide no-contact shopping opportunities for those wishing to participate. Pick a list and fill your cart with what you’re comfortable with, and have it shipped directly to your home or to the office address connected to the registry. When you recieve your items, you can schedule a time to drop them off with our Youth Mentoring team (PLEASE CALL AHEAD! 228-0108). Additionally, you’re welcome to provide a financial gift or donate a gift card to assist us in getting children who will be distance learning the tools and supplies needed to succeed.
I’d prefer not to shop. How can I donate funds directly to the Backpack Program?
If you’d like to provide a cash donation in lieu of shopping, please click here to donate, or mail us a check with “Gear for Grades” on the memo line.
If I do shop, where do I bring the backpacks/supplies/gift cards?
The Friends Program
Attn: Gear for Grades (if mailing)
130 Pembroke Road, Suite 200
Concord, NH 03301
Do I need to purchase every item on the list?
While we’d appreciate if each donation contained a backpack full of all items a student needs, we also welcome smaller donations – whatever you are comfortable donating!
When do you need them by?
We will gladly accept donations through August 20th for a September 1 school-start.
I really love to shop in person, can I still do that?
Absolutely! We have provided the online registry to create a no-contact shopping experience for those who would like one. We appreciate all forms of contribution to the drive!
Will I receive a donation receipt?
To request a donation receipt, please email your contact information and value of your donation to cspern@friendsprogram.org
